The first consideration with the ball above our feet is where to align ourselves. Anytime we alter the lie angle of the club, we change the clubface aim. To illustrate this I attach a magnetic pointer onto the clubface. If the club is soled flush to a flat surface, the clubface can align itself to the target. But, once you bring the toe of the club up, the aim of the clubface goes to the left. This is more true with lofted clubs like wedges versus less lofted clubs like fairway woods. So our first adjustment is to align ourselves to the right of the target. The second adjustment is to figure out how to avoid crashing our club into the slope. To do this we must stand slightly taller at address and then swing the club on a flatter plane. The lie angle of the club will dictate our swing plane. In this case the lie angle of the club is on a flatter plane and we need to match that up in the backswing and downswing. If we swing the club too upright we will either hit a shot off the toe of the club or crash the club into the slope.
